Besides the individual physical and chemical characteristics, the toxicological and physiological properties of many vegetable derived products are decisive in their selection for usage in the pharmaceutical industry. The reason for this is the natural basis of vegetable fats . All the soaps and metallic soaps extracted, as well glycerine, esters and the fatty acids themselves, can be naturally metabolized without any adverse reaction. Magnesium stearate is one example: it is by far the number one in the top 10 of most applied excipients in oral solid dosage forms.
LIGAMED MF-2-V
LIGAMED MF-2-V is a vegetable magnesium stearate of a high purity for standard production of tablets and capsules. The validated and special process of manufacturing guarantees a high degree of batch-to-batch consistency and a high specific surface area. This results in a good speed of release during pressing and constant performance of the tablets such as hardness and dissolution profiles. The high percentages of fine particles and build-up of the crystals of LIGAMED MF-2-V guarantee a high lubrication and a good release effect, and therefore economic and profitable production. The usual dosage is 0.2 to 1.0 % by weight. By small addition of Magnesium Stearate the flow behavior of master batch powders is highly improved for efficient dosage in capsules or improvement of the stability for powder formulations. The product meets the standards of the latest monographs: USP/NF, Ph.Eur, JP, BP, DAB.
LIGAMED MF-3-V
LIGAMED MF-3-V is distinguished by the same properties as MF-2-V, but possesses a higher specific surface area and a smaller average particle size. For this reason it is preferred in applications where processing conditions are more critical such as the use of very fine excipients or herbal formulations.
LIGAMED MF-2-V-BI
LIGAMED MF-2-V-BI is distinguished by the same properties as MF-2-V, but possesses a lower specific surface area. As the crystals are identical to MF-2-V it supports a lower dissolution profile. Also this grade supports low and stable viscosity in tablet coatings.
LIGAMED MF-2-V-PREMIUM
LIGAMED MF-2-V-PREMIUM is a special grade for highly regulated applications and is identical to MF-2-V in performance, but very broadly and intensively tested with full fatty acid profiles, particle size characterization and very intensitive microbial testing.
LIGAMED MF-2-K
LIGAMED MF-3-K
A Kosher Certificate for these types is available and is in compliance with Halal regulations. The Jewish and Arab cultures now demand this for over-the-counter sales of nutraceuticals such as vitamin tablets.
LIGA CALCIUMSTEARAT CPR-2-V
The properties of calcium stearate are comparable with those of magnesium stearate. It is therefore also physiologically safe and is produced to meet USP/NF standards. It is used as a lubricant, flow aid and water repellent. This latter property allows calcium stearate to be used in the production of effervescent tablets in order to prevent premature reaction due to absorption of water. This grade is also available as kosher certified LIGA CALCIUM STEARATE CPR-2-K.
LIGA CALCIUMSTEARAT CPR-2-Ph.Eur.
In addition to USP/NF this grade of calcium stearate is modified to meet the requirements of the Ph.Eur., BP and DAB.
LIGA SODIUM STEARATE FPC
This sodium stearate is used as a gelling agent, opacifier and emulsifier. The product is manufactured from vegetable based fatty acid and fulfils the requirements of the USP/NF.
LIGA ZINC STEARATE ZPR-2-V
The properties of zinc stearate are comparable to those of magnesium and calcium stearate and are preferably applied where magnesium and/or calcium ions effect or interfere with the active ingredients. Zinc stearate is also used in many ointments and powders as water repellent and protective agent in the treatment of skin diseases.
LIGA GLYZERIN 99,5 V Ph.EUR
Glycerine plays a very important role in the pharmaceutical industry. LIGA GLYZERIN 99,5 V PH.EUR is exclusively vegetable derived and fulfils the requirements of the USP/NF, Ph.Eur, BP and DAB. It is used as a lubricant, as a solvent in many tinctures, as basis for the manufacturing of theophylline elixirs for the treatment of bronchitis etc. Glycerine is also essential for the production of capsules. This grade is particularly low in the proportion of chlorides and heavy metals. The proportion of water is below 0.5 %.
LIGA GLYZERIN 86 V Ph.EUR
This product is produced according to the same standards as LIGA GLYZERIN 99,5 V PH.EUR but has a glycerine content of 86%. It therefore has a lower viscosity which simplifies the handling. LIGA GLYZERIN 86 V PH.EUR is exclusively vegetable derived and fulfils the requirements of the USP/NF, Ph.Eur, BP and DAB.
