Esters create a material group of chemical compounds, by the reaction of an acid (for example stearic acid, oleic acid) and an alcohol (such as glycerin, pentaerythritol).
Esters are - as well as metallic soaps - indispensable additives in the plastic, lubricant and textile industry. Their effects and properties are based, just like the metallic soaps, on the different characteristics of the functional groups and polar content.
