On-site Renewable Energy: Ground-Mounted Photovoltaics at Headquarters

Sustainability and climate action shape the way we do business. That is why we are especially pleased to take another concrete step at our headquarters in Bad Münstereifel: the commissioning of our ground-mounted photovoltaic system.

As a manufacturing company in the chemical industry, we currently rely on electricity and gas as our primary energy sources. Purchased electricity is classified as Scope 2 emissions in our CO2 footprint. This includes all indirect greenhouse gas emissions resulting from the purchase of energy such as electricity, steam, heat, or cooling.

To consistently implement our sustainability goals, we have already taken a range of measures in the past: we continuously improve our energy efficiency, and in 2023 we switched our electricity supply to green electricity from renewable energy sources.

Investing in the new ground-mounted photovoltaic system was a logical next step for us—moving away from relying solely on purchased green electricity toward greater self-sufficiency and further emissions reductions. The system was built on a previously unused, company-owned area directly next to our office building. The electricity generated is consumed by us on site and is expected to cover around 11% of our annual electricity demand.

In this way, we not only strengthen our sustainable energy supply at the site, but also make a measurable contribution to reducing our location-based Scope 2 emissions.
