Our Renewable Carbon Initiative (RCI) Membership

As part of our sustainability strategy, we are pleased to be a member of the Renewable Carbon Initiative (RCI) since 2022. The RCI is a cross-industry initiative aimed at ending the chemical industry's dependence on fossil raw materials and replacing them with renewable carbon sources.

What does the Renewable Carbon Initiative stand for?

Founded in 2020 under the leadership of the nova Institute, the RCI has since gained numerous members throughout the entire value chain – including manufacturers, processors, brand owners, and suppliers in the chemical and plastics industry.

The concept of "renewable carbon" and the "defossilization" of the chemical industry are the core elements. This is not just about climate neutrality or emission reduction, but about a fundamentally new way of thinking: The RCI demands that the entire organic carbon needs of the chemical industry should be covered sustainably from renewable sources in the long term – and no longer from fossil resources such as oil, natural gas, or coal.

Renewable carbon sources include:

  • Biomass (e.g., plant oils or fatty acids),
  • Recycled carbon (e.g., chemical or mechanical recycling),
  • CO2 (e.g., CO₂ utilization through Carbon Capture & Utilization).

The RCI actively promotes these concepts through scientific work, political advocacy, and cross-industry networking to implement a transformation of the chemical industry that is ecologically sensible and economically viable.

Why we are members

As a manufacturer of oleochemical additives based on renewable raw materials, we have always seen ourselves as part of the solution. The principles of the RCI align closely with our own values and goals – particularly our commitment to making our products, processes, and partnerships consistently sustainable.

Our membership in the RCI allows us to:

  • Access a strong network of like-minded companies,
  • Exchange ideas on innovative technologies and political developments,
  • Actively shape a climate-friendly and future-proof chemical industry.

Through our engagement in the RCI, we make a concrete contribution to promoting a sustainable raw material base – not just for our products, but for the entire industry.
