RSPO – For Sustainable Palm Oil
Sustainability has long become a central topic in both business and society. Particularly in the area of raw materials, which are used in countless products around the world, the responsible use of resources plays a key role.
Why is sustainably sourced palm oil important?
Globally, palm oil is the most widely used vegetable-based raw material. It also plays a crucial role for the oleochemical industry and offers many advantages. However, the environmental impacts of palm oil cultivation, such as deforestation and the resulting loss of biodiversity, are heavily criticized. For this reason, it is essential to accelerate the sustainable cultivation of palm oil—a goal that organizations like the RSPO and FONAP have been actively pursuing for many years.
What is the RSPO?
The Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) is an international, non-profit organization. Its mission is to promote the sustainable production and use of palm oil. The RSPO brings together companies, NGOs, producers, traders, and consumers worldwide to collaboratively develop solutions to the challenges of the palm oil industry.
The RSPO’s work is based on clearly defined principles and criteria designed to ensure that palm oil is produced in a way that is environmentally, socially, and economically sustainable. Companies that use RSPO-certified palm oil actively contribute to supporting these standards and driving sustainable development within the palm oil industry.
Peter Greven and the RSPO
As a manufacturer of oleochemicals, sustainability plays a central role at Peter Greven. We are fully aware of our responsibility toward the environment and have been committed to the use of sustainably produced palm oil for many years. All locations of the Peter Greven Group are RSPO Mass Balance (MB) certified, and our Life Science site, Peter Greven Nederland, also holds a Segregated (SG) certification.
Our product lines LIGAMED®, LIGAFOOD®, LIGAFEED®, and PALMSTAR® were fully converted to RSPO Mass Balance-certified fatty acids several years ago and are therefore exclusively available in certified quality.
Sustainability is a community responsibility—only through the collaboration of producers, companies, consumers, and organizations like the RSPO can sustainable development in the palm oil industry be achieved.
